As summer begins, things are not slowing down at Redhat Group and Redhat Capital. We are pleased to welcome three students over the summer for a work experience programme for the first time.
Sarah Faisal is a student from the prestigious Eaton Square School in Mayfair. She has been shadowing business meetings with clients as well as conducting desk research.
Sitting in business meetings has allowed Sarah to familiarise herself with the company’s operations, goals and culture while exposing her to the leadership styles and decision-making processes. The benefits for the student were two-fold. First, it gave her the opportunity to expand their network, improve communication, analytical skills and build confidence in professional settings. Secondly, observing problem solving and their innovative ideas helped me understand how to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world business practices.
Researching commodities including cocoa powder, copper powder and graphene for an investment bond like Redhat Capital helped Sarah deepen her understanding of the commodity, including its uses, producers, major buyers and the net trade flow, as well as the global trade patterns and economic factors influencing commodity markets, making them more valuable to investors.
Commenting, Sarah said: “Gaining insight into the job trajectory of employees with extensive work experience from different backgrounds and industries showed potential career paths and growth opportunities within an industry. Alongside the stories, Ash Zaman, Mohammed Ajaj and Aman Siddiqui offered unique advice that resonated with my principles and seemed practical, so it would be wise to apply it in my future endeavours.
Redhat Capital helped me set a foundation in financial analysis, market research and investment strategies. I had the opportunity to network with experienced professionals, gained insights into career paths and valuable mentorship which is crucial for developing a career in finance.”
Shaan Shakil has been gaining work experience with the Group since early June. He is a sophomore at the North Carolina State University, pursuing a degree in business administration with a finance concentration. He has been serving as a junior analyst for a student-run hedge fund since the beginning of the year, allowing him to gain valuable experience in making long-only investment decisions. Shaan is passionate about financial analysis and market strategy and wishes to further a career in investment banking.
As a qualified investment analyst and Bloomberg certified specialist, Shaan spent the summer at Redhat Capital assisting with and understanding deal flow, client relationships and all aspects of the investment process which will aid his path going forward into the investment banking sector and finance industry.
Shaan commented: “I am most grateful to the team at Redhat Capital for the unique opportunity to experience the investment and deal making process from one of the centres of global finance, i.e. Mayfair, London.”
The third student who joined the Group over the summer, Olivia Bisset, is currently attending the University of Manchester, where she is reading a BA in Economics – due to graduate in 2025.
During her work experience, she conducted research on a number of projects and investment opportunities, such as for example, a natural resources project and a logistics project (including shipping) in South America.
Commenting Olivia said: “I can safely say that I have gained first-hand knowledge about investing, returns and risk assessment over the past weeks, thanks to the team at Redhat. I am most grateful for their incredible advice. Also, this experience has helped me to develop my critical analysis skills, and formal presentation of findings, providing me with valuable insight into potential applications post-graduation.”
Improving the financial literacy of the next generation is extremely important to all of us at Redhat, and giving a student the unique opportunity to learn the financial markets at the coal face is something we are thrilled about.
We look forward to continuing and expanding this programme in years to come.
